More about gemstones

I don't know if anyone is interested in this but as I have been looking at gemstone rings and other jewellery I have come across what some people believe about the healing and spiritual properties of gemstones. E.g. why people wear the gemstones other than because they look pretty or are in fashion.

Crystals have been used for healing divination, and by those seeking a spiritual awakening since time immemorial. Crystals and stones are found in legend, myth and religious writings. From the stereotypical image of the fortune teller with a crystal ball to mention in ancient writings and religious text it is clear that many cultures have used this gifts from the earth. Mention of the power of stones is found in the Old Testament of the Bible and the black stone of Mecca forms part of Islamic pilgrimage . The ancient Egyptians, Greeks and the Romans wore stones as amulets and wards. The word crystal came from the Ancient Greek word krystallos meaning ice. Native American Shamans recognized the healing and scrying power of stones. They can be found in the culture of the Mayans and Aztecs. Stones and crystals have been used in China and Russia.

Quartz

Quartz crystals are metaphysical aids that help the user amplify the positive and transmute negativity. They can assist in meditation, healing and connection with both higher self and the universe. A crystal can bring balance, help one center and increase the flow of energy through the physical and subtle bodies.

Pyrite

The resemblance of pyrite to gold has made it a traditional symbol for money and good luck. It's sunny golden color associates it with the sun, and with fortification and strengthening of the mind. The name comes from the Greek word meaning "a stone which strikes fire".

Iron Pyrite makes a wonderful energy shield, blocking out negativity from various sources. Some of its properties include:
- Overcomes inertia and feelings of inadequacy
- Energizes the area where you place it (such as on a desk where you work)
- Helps you to see behind a facade

Aquamarine

Aquamarine purifies the body and enhances clarity of mind with its gentle and compassionate energy. It helps bring closure to unresolved situations. It is especially good for sensitive people promoting self courage, elevating fears and phobias. Aquamarine is an excellent stone for meditation, calming and balancing the physical, emotional and mental aspects.

Topaz

Topaz is one of the twelve breastplate stones of the High Priest referred to in the Book of Exodus. The breastplate stones are considered sacred to twelve mighty angels who guard the gates to Paradise.

Today, imperial topaz is used to:

- Encourage self realization and confidence
- Impart strength to quiet wild emotions
- Banish bad dreams
- Bestow charisma on its user
- Topaz draws love to its wearer
- Protection against envy, disease, negative magic and sudden or untimely death
- Combined with tiger eye, topaz will bring wealth and money

Lapis Lazuli

Lapis lazuli is an ancient gem, and as such, has a storied history. Egyptian cultures made a practice of burying a lapis lazuli scarab with their dead, and believed it to offer protection. The very earliest cultures valued lapis lazuli more highly than gold. Greeks spoke of an ancient sapphire which was included with gold, and this was unmistakenly lapis. Some believed that dreaming of lapis would foretell love that would be forever faithful.

When working or meditating with Lapis Lazuli, it can bring matters more clearly to the mind. It is one of the most powerful stones and should be used with care. Wearing a Lapis Lazuli ring can help you to become a channel. The ancient Egyptians used Lapis Lazuli as a symbol of Truth.
